Being wise after the event is not an option and in the case of the mussels in Torbay the decision was taken to stop harvesting this week 27 -3-09. to avoid having the mussels spawn in the tanks . As it turned out this was the correct decision as a small tank of mussels which had been collected on Saturday the 28th only had 20% meat content which if we had tried to market them would mean having to put in 20% more mussels to achieve the correct weight in a sack.
